About Alan

Alan Bishop commenced his career in rock carving and painting back in 1987 when he worked with a couple of leading exponents of the craft from North Carolina Zoo, USA.

In 1998 he set up ‘Alan Bishop Themeworks Ltd’, which has now established itself as one of the UK premier theming companies, specilsing in Artificial Rockwork – also known as Faux Rockwork or Fake Rockwork, with clients including London Zoo and the British Museum. The core business is still bespoke, hand finished faux rockwork, but additional services include visualisation, scenic art, artificial planting.

In 1989 he set up ‘Rockscapes Ltd’ with his brother Ian, a 3D Designer, and Stephen Dale, a Landscape Architect. The core business was faux rockwork and water features. Alan then went on to work on a freelance basis, expanding his range of experience in the theming and scenic art sector of the leisure industry, including work on film sets and exhibitions.

Alan likes to keep ‘hands on’ with the business and continues to use his carving and painting skills at every opportunity. In addition he has built up a wealth of experience in project managing both large and small projects, for both private and commercial clients. His understanding and commitment to his trade means he can offer advice on design, visualisation and application. Just as important, Alan has the financial acumen necessary to run a successful business in a competitive market, with clients looking for both quality and value for money.ng and sculpture.

Over the years Alan has also researched the history of faux rockwork, grottos and follies in the UK and his other company ‘Alan Bishop & Associates’ (
